Additional information
irtec Licensed Technicians are listed on the irtec national register along with their company. The licence is valid for a period of five years after which the licensee must undergo reassessment. Licence holders will be bound by a code of conduct.
Practical and theoretical tests have been developed by the transport industry and are based on National Occupational Standards. The scheme is designed to support the base qualifications of the industry and the licence holder must demonstrate current competence. The idea of ensuring a company’s employees are currently competent sits well with Codes of Practice that have been developed by SMMT and the BSI.
The flexibility of the framework is such that company CPD programmes may be accredited to a licence level, thus providing an alternative route to a licence.
Smaller specialist training and assessment courses may be accredited and form an individual module of competence that may stand alone or form an integral component part of a candidate’s programme of assessment.
Companies may apply for accreditation of a training and assessment programme. The training and assessment provider must meet and maintain irtec assessment standards to gain assessment centre authorisation in order to recommend certification and licensing of their candidates to irtec. For further details please contact irtec.
The assessment day must then be arranged through irtec, either by the individual or by the company of the individual if being assessed at an irtec Centre. irtec must be notified of when all testing is due to take place. The online test must be carried out under examination controlled conditions at an irtec authorised centre and can be taken either on the same day as the test or within a 12 month period of the practical test. The certification and licence issued will run from the earliest assessment date.
Successful candidatesSuccessful candidates will receive a certificate and credit card-sized irtec Licence in the sector and level they are licenced in . Their name and employer will be listed on a national register on the irtec website. Accredited programme certificates may show the company logo.
